The Smith County Planning Office serves as a central point of contact for development related matters such as: land subdividing, site reviews, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, building permits and electrical permits in the county that lie outside of the three city limits. The office enforces the Smith County zoning ordinance, sub-division regulations, mobile home park regulations, FEMA floodplain regulations and Title VI Compliance. The department provides advisory staff to the Smith County Board of Zoning Appeals, Smith County Planning Commission, Smith County Commission, the Joint Economic Community Development Board and the citizens of Smith County, Tennessee.
