Jeff Mason, as County Mayor, is the Chief Executive & Financial Officer of the County and performs duties and administrative tasks, and interacts with other county officials in almost every area of local administration. He serves on many different boards and committees throughout Smith County and the Upper Cumberland Region.
Economic & Community Development
Smith County is a level 3 participant in the ThreeStar Program, the highest level attainable. As a service to local businesses and those considering relocating to Smith County, the Smith County Chamber provides data and research to help businesses make sound decisions. Small business is the backbone of Smith County’s economy. The community embraces the impact of these companies on our culture and lifestyle. The Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations have developed a variety of resources designed to help all small businesses succeed.

They meet every 3 months on the 4th Tuesday at 8 AM at the Chamber of Commerce.

ThreeStar is a strategic community development program developed to assist communities in preparing for a better future. In Smith County, we have three inviting cities with ThreeStar quality. With an agricultural and tourism base already thriving, Smith County offers strategic opportunity for a variety of sectors, with effective programs also in place to nurture small to medium-sized business. Our county’s human resources are excellent, worker skills sharpened by the expert training of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. And our natural resources are also outstanding, yielding abundant harvests in hay, corn, soybeans, tobacco, strawberries, green peppers, tomatoes and apples; cattle are also raised here. Mineral resources include crushed stone and zinc, while timber stands include oak, hickory, ash, cedar, maple and walnut.
