Smith County Committees

There are various committees that serve our Smith County residents by ensuring our county departments are run efficiently and fiscally responsibly. We have provided links to all of the committees below for government transparency.

Ag Center Committee

AG CENTER COMMITTEE:

Composed of two County Commissioners and individuals from various entities that use the center. Reviews expenses and revenues of center. Discusses building maintenance and projects. Reviews grants and contracts. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Budget & Finance Committee

BUDGET & FINANCE COMMITTEE:

Approves budget amendments, reviews revenues, expenses and cash balances for all funds monthly prior to County Court Meetings. Approves or amends expenditures, new requests and revenue projections for new year budgets. Also approves a final budget and recommends a tax rate to full commission for passage.

County Buildings & Capital Projects Committee

COUNTY BUILDINGS & CAPITAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE:

Reviews expenses and revenues from county buildings. Discusses building maintenance and projects. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to Finance department. Reviews and makes recommendations on grants and contracts. Once Capital Projects is funded, any capital project would be approved and recommended by this committee to the Budget & Finance Committee. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Education Committee

EDUCATION COMMITTEE:

Meets as needed to discuss education issues. One representative or more needs to attend each school board meeting to report on actions taken by school board.

EMS Committee

EMS COMMITTEE:

Reviews expenses and revenues with all departments. Discusses building maintenance and capital projects. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to Finance department. Reviews and makes recommendations on grants and contracts. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Ethics Committee

ETHICS COMMITTEE:

Meeting would only be called when an ethics violation or possible violation has occurred. Purpose and duties would be to review possible ethics violations and determine the proper course of action if violations are found.

Parks & Recreation Committee

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE:

Consists of 4 commissioners and 4 public representatives who are in charge of/or use ball fields, soccer fields, Kidz Central Playground or Lock Seven Park. Purpose and duties are to review expenses and revenues from parks system. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to Finance department. Discusses maintenance of facilities and projects & improvements needed. Reviews and makes recommendations on grants and contracts. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Personnel Policy Committee

PERSONNEL POLICY COMMITTEE:

Purpose is to discuss and set or amend personnel policies. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Roads & Bridges Committee

ROADS & BRIDGES COMMITTEE:

Reviews expenses and revenues. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to Finance department. Discusses projects, progress and equipment needs. Discusses state aid projects. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Sheriff, Courts & Jail Committee

SHERIFF, COURTS & JAIL COMMITTEE:

Reviews expenses and revenue with all departments. Discusses building maintenance and capital projects. Conducts the biannual jail inspections. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to the Finance department. Reviews and makes recommendations on grants and contracts. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.

Solid Waste Committee

SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE:

Reviews expenses and revenues at landfill. Reviews and approves yearly budgets before submittal to Finance department. Discusses cell building and permitting. Reviews grants and contracts. Chairman would make reports to full commission following meetings of committee.
