Smith County Committees

The following committees serve our Smith County residents by ensuring our county departments are run efficiently and fiscally responsibly. We have provided links to the committee meeting agendas for government transparency.

SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE:

The Solid Waste Committee shall work with the County Mayor and Solid Waste Director on matters involving landfill operations, convenience centers, and other related solid waste programs or facilities. The Committee shall review policies, procedures, and operational needs related to solid waste management in the county. The Committee shall provide oversight and guidance on solid waste policies, budgetary considerations, and strategic planning to ensure efficient and sustainable waste management services. The Committee shall present recommendations to the Commission for changes or improvements in such policies and services.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

The Public Safety Committee shall work with the County Mayor, Sheriff, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director, 911 Director, Emergency Management Director, Rescue Squad, and any other emergency services division on matters pertaining to their departments, and to bring recommendations for changes and improvements in their operations to the County Commission when necessary.

BUILDINGS, GROUNDS AND ROADS COMMITTEE:

Establish policies and procedures for the maintenance, control, and improvements of county buildings and property, and to bring specific recommendations to the Commission.

POLICY AND RULES COMMITTEE:

The Rules and Policy Committee shall review the Rules for the Procedures of the Smith County Board of Commissioners and recommend changes to the Commission as needed. The committee shall review all county policies under the jurisdiction of the Commission and present recommendations to the Commission when appropriate.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Financial Management Committee is charged with establishing policies, procedures, and regulations for implementation of a sound and efficient financial system for administering the fund of the county.
